Diversity and Inclusion in service of scientific excellence at VIB

During this presentation Agnes will outline the business case for VIB to not view Diversity, Equity and Inclusion initiatives as an add-on, but as a key strategic driver for science excellence and collaborator wellbeing at VIB.

About the speaker

Agnes Uhereczky is the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion officer for the VIB, since September 2023. Prior to taking up this role Agnes was a consultant for 8 years, of which for 2 at Deloitte Belgium. She worked with public and private sector employers in creating safe and inclusive workplaces and ensuring that employees can bring their full diversity to the workplaces. Project highlights included:

  • Leading a research project for the European Institute of Gender Equality on the barriers women face in entering STEM careers in the EU
  • Supporting the gender parity objectives across the United Nations system, also contributing to the UN Guide on the Enabling Environment Guidelines for Gender parity.
  • Preventing and tackling sexual harassment at work for the UNODC, with specific projects in Sri Lanka, Thailand and Mexico

Agnes is an engaging trainer, and has designed and delivered trainings and workshop on a number of DE&I related topics such as Inclusive Leadership, Active Bystander approach, tackling bias and work-life balance.

Her publications include the book ’One Life - How the most forward-looking organisations leverage work-life integration to attract talent and foster employee wellbeing’ published by Die Keure in 2018, as well as the Emergency Guide to Teleworking during a pandemic for the ILO, published in 2020.
